the things from childhood stick like glue

The things from our childhood cement our thinking, our hearts, and our passion. It dictates how we navigate through life. It impacts our choices and decisions.

You may have had a wonderful childhood and upbringing, or you may not have had a good one, but either way, it holds us tight, never to let us go. This can be good or bad depending on the type of childhood you've had.

In 2 Timothey 3:15, the Apostle Paul reminds Timothy of the biblical teaching he's had from a child. There was a legacy of faith passed down to him from his grandmother and mother. The Apostle Paul, over the years, had mentored Timothy, but he reminds him that long before he met him, he was instructed by the Word of God. Paul encouraged him to continue in the things he's learned.

This is positive reinforcement for Timothy. This is great advice he's given. Timothy had a good upbringing and a great spiritual start in life despite the fact that his father was Greek. His Jewish grandmother and mother made the difference in his spiritual upbringing.

Some of us had a similar situation while others have had the complete opposite. Childhood stuff sticks to us like glue!

The ingredients of our childhood that are beneficial with God influence should remain, and the ones that aren't, we must discard.

God has the power and divine ability to help us shake off dysfunction and the effects of a bad upbringing.

Identify those things that need to be gotten rid of in your attitude, in your habits, in your vocabulary, and in your life. Ask God to help you turn things around. Spend time reading the Word of God where it saturates your mind and heart. God's power is at work when we read. This power transforms our thinking. Develop a prayer life daily, and you will begin to see the necessary changes take place. Prayer is work, but it works! Prayer and the consistent reading of God's Word will allow you to hear the voice of God, and you will see evidence of His power in your life.

Remember the things you either heard or were taught from a child about the Lord God. God gave you that opportunity earlier on so that you would be set on the right path. Maybe someone took you to Sunday school, or you were raised in the church. It doesn't matter; hold on to those things you learned and live them out in your daily life. Remember the legacy of faith you were given. Continue in what you have learned!

"And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word."
Luke 10:39

                                                                                     Sitting
It's a conscious intentional act and a recognized need to be still. Sitting provides an opportunity for spiritual insight and spiritual growth. It is there that you learn who God is and it will strengthen your faith.

When we sit in His presence daily, we're telling the Lord God that we need Him, and we are depending on Him. We're telling Him that we desire His presence and His company. We're inviting Him to have control over our life, our thoughts, our responses, our actions, and our words for that day.

Sitting requires consistent prioritized time. We are not to be in a hurry to read and pray.  Rushing in and out of His presence is rude and not acceptable. We should set aside a specific time slot, preferably, in the morning before we start the day.  We should also give attention to prayer because communication with the Lord God goes both ways.

Mary of Bethany sat at the Lord's feet on three occasions: for learning, at a time of grief, and for worship.
Luke 10:39; John 11:32; Mark 14:3

Our ability to sit at His feet for learning will impact every area of our lives. When trials come, we'll know to run to Him automatically. In so doing, we'll have the help we need all day long. We'll have the strength we need, and the right perspective we need. We'll be able to shine our light for others to see. Our testimony will be seen as well.  We will ultimately please God. We can now come into the good of all the blessings God has given to us.

Note:
There are no additional blessings to be had for we've been blessed with all spiritual blessings already. We just have to live in the good of what we've been given in order to experience the abundant life.

May the Lord help us to practice sitting in His presence daily.
