"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith". 2Timothy 4:7-8
This question I'm asking is one that I have had to ponder myself. In general, no one is 'ready' to die. The human desire is to live. Being prepared to die is a slightly different story. We all have been given an expiration date. No one knows when their life will be over. The Bible text above is a good place to start in pondering this question. All we have to do is simply take an honest assessment of our present life and evaluate whether or not we can say what the Apostle Paul has said about himself. We can be prepared to die by knowing with all assurance that we are saved, and that we are living according to the Word of God. We can be honest about where we are on the rector scale of obedience to the Lord God. We all fall short, I know, but despite this, overall, we can assess where we're at in a spiritual sense. If the Lord God tap you or I on the shoulder and says, "time to go", would we be ready? Would we have felt as if we've done the majority of what He willed for our lives? Have you and I been faithful to Him, have we separated ourselves from the world, have we found our fellowship with His people more consistently than not? Are we dependent upon His Holy Spirit for direction and are following His divine guidance? And what about the spiritual gift or gifts He gave us, have we been serving Him and Him only with them to His honor and glory? It's good to ask ourselves these questions often so that we can look at where we are in a spiritual sense. If we have 'Yes' as our answer to these questions, we can safely say that we are prepared to die when the time comes. We don't want to have any regrets or unfinished business as a Christian. May the Lord God help us to take an honest assessment of our lives and if we come up short, we can turn things around by humbly going to God confessing areas we've failed in and invite Him to help us get to where we need to be.
