Bring your past and all of its ugliness to Him as well. You've got to enter into an intimate place with God, first believing that He is who He says He is, Confessing that you have sinned against Him as an unbeliever, or maybe you're a Christian who has not fully surrendered to Him, never the less, explain what your life has been and place faith and trust in Him and ask for His help.
